LAKEWOOD RANCH — Tailgating for families is encouraged around the broad, green playing field.

But the sport is not football, the usual tailgating venue.

The Sarasota International Cricket Club will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a festival beginning Thursday and continuing through the weekend, featuring 15 teams from the United States, the United Kingdom, Cayman Islands, Mexico City and Toronto.

We recently have been victims to the LWR Deed Restriction Administrator to the point of harrassment. We have received 3 letters of violation in 45 days and have continued to correct what they state is a problem; but they follow-up with letters saying they don't think it is good enough.

I often wonder when driving to and from the community why did I pay $800,000 for a home in Lakewood rance. From the lights that don’t work to the shotty landscapes to the paint and stucco missing from front steps. There are communities that cost half as much and yet their homes are better kept. I am not sure if it’s the cost of a few $2.00 light bulbs or the $2.00 - $3.00 per month they will pay in electric but the post lights are there to light up the community. When the lights are out this is a liability for both the home owner and the residents that walk their dogs at night. I see many homes where the residents are not facing foreclosure and not in financial disarray yet there homes are in worse condition than some of the $150,000 homes of Bradenton.

Recently, I read somewhere that Lakewood Ranch is asking for an, I believe the figure was 15%, increase for health insurance premiums for it's employees. I don't mean to sound cruel, but have you seen some of these people? They look very unhealthy. I think they should follow strict diet and exercise plans to try and lower their premiums. I wonder how much of our homeowner's fees are going toward Dunkin Doughnuts?
